HARROW: Robberies fall but burglaries rise
The number of robberies in Harrow decreased by more than a third last year but burglary is on the rise, according to the latest figures released by police.
The Met recorded 769 robberies in the borough between March 2007 and March 2008, down 31 per cent on last year.
But the number of burglaries rose from 1,959 to 2,295, an increase of around two per cent, despite a slight reduction across London as a whole.
There were 42 cases of rape and 126 other sexual offences compared with 45 and 155 last year.
Overall, there were 14,074 offences recorded in Harrow last year, compared with 15,837 the previous year, a reduction of around 11 per cent.
Violent crime is also down 10 per cent from 2,870 cases, between 2006 and 2007, to 2,576 but still stands at an average of more than seven cases per day.
Gun crime fell by 16 per cent, while motor vehicle crime fell by around 13 per cent.
There were 183 cases of racist crime, a reduction of 21 per cent.
