WANDSWORTH: Detectives discover Southfields cannabis factory

A cannabis factory was discovered in a Southfields' loft after police called at the address to look for a missing person.

Police discovered 41 plants with a street value of more than £20,000 at the property in Whitlock Drive.

They found the factory by chance after originally visiting the premises to look for a missing person on April 4.

A search of the house proved fruitless but officers noticed the occupants became nervous when asked about the loft, according to police.

A police spokesman said: "One of the officers looked at the ceiling on the upstairs landing and noticed a loft hatch.

"When they specifically pointed this out to the occupier the officers were told not to go up there.

"When they entered the loft they discovered a fully operational large scale cannabis factory.

"The loft was equipped with hydrophonic equipment, a range of computers and, most importantly, 41 fully-grown cannabis plants which can be best described as large bushes."

The case of the missing person was also solved when they subsequently returned to the address.

  • Five people were arrested for cultivation of cannabis and have been bailed to return at a later date.
