BARNET: Police investigate unexplained death
The body of an elderly woman was removed from a Finchley flat yesterday following a large police operation.
At least six police cars and two forensic vans were seen in Dollis Park during the day, and a body bag was carried from the property at 6pm.
It is believed a woman around 90-years-old was found dead in the top floor flat, although formal identification has yet to take place.
Kevin Corker, site manager for Winston House, which is opposite the scene, said he saw officers searching the area just before 9am.
"Police were swarming around, it was amazing the number of people that were here," added Mr Corker, who was asked to show an officer the view of the flats from the forth floor of the office block.
"They were looking in the hedge rows and gardens, and sealed off the alleyway leading to the flats.
"The officer I spoke to said they were looking for possible escape routes, and they thought it may be suspicious."
A police officer was stationed outside the flat and neighbours were not able to confirm any details about a possible identity.
A police spokesman said they were treating it as an unexplained death and detectives were investigating the incident.
