Cyclist critical after shooting

A teenager has been shot twice in the back while cycling past a block of flats in Hackney, east London.

Police believe two youths with a handgun hid behind a small bush and opened fire as the 18-year-old victim passed Evelyn Court in Amhurst Road at 6.15pm on Saturday.

His wounds caused the teenager to fall off his bike, but he staggered through a nearby playground to flag down a car driven by friends.

They took him to hospital, where he is in a "critical but stable" condition, a Met spokesman said.

The two attackers ran off after the shooting.

The Met's Trident team, which investigates black-on-black gun crime, urged witnesses to call them on 020 8733 4774.
