Nurse death trial delayed

The trial of a man accused of killing nurse Eshan Chattun at Springfield Hospital has been delayed while further psychiatric reports are carried out.

Jason Cann, 21, is accused of murdering father-of-two Mr Chattun at the Tooting hospital during an alleged attack in June.

His preliminary trial was scheduled this week, but the judge at Blackfriars Crown Court was told on Wednesday that more time was needed to prepare psychiatric assessments of Cann.

The Crown Prosecution Service told the court: “Clearly there are mental health issues in this case and there is likely to be an issue of fitness to plead.” The case has been deferred until Friday, September 26.
