Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of an elderly woman in Stamford Hill.
Police were called at 4:54pm on New Year's Day to an address in Leweston Place following concerns for Eveline Kelmenson.
The 83-year-old woman, known to her family and friends as Lina, was discovered with her legs wrapped in duct tape in her three-storey home.
Officers accompanied by paramedics forced their way into the house after a niece raised the alarm.
A post mortem was scheduled to take place at the Royal London Hospital today (5 January).
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said the death of the woman, who lived alone, is being treated as "suspicious". She said the victim had no obvious injuries and officers are investigating if there was a break-in.
"I am also appealing to anyone who has information relating to Lina or indeed the circumstances surrounding her death to please come forward to police with information."
Anyone with information is being asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3715; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
