An inquiry into the life of toddler Bobby Harris who died aged 21 months is to be launched by Bexley Council.
National newspapers have reported that officials in the social services department are preparing a Serious Case Review following the toddler’s death last Monday.
A Bexley Council spokesman told the News Shopper that its social services team had no dealings with the child and that he was not on their at risk register.
But the council is preparing to follow procedures set up in the wake of the Victoria Climbie murder, it has been reported.
Paramedics were called to a house in Halcot Avenue, Bexleyheath, at around 9.30am on December 29.
The boy was taken to Queens Mary's Hospital, Sidcup, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.
A post-mortem examination at Great Ormond Street Hospital the following day revealed the boy died from multiple injuries.
Police have launched a murder investigation.
A 29-year-old woman, named locally as the boy's mother Collette Harris, and a 24-year-old man, believed to be her boyfriend, were arrested on Wednesday. They have been bailed to return to police in February.
One neighbour said Collette “seemed like a good mum” who was always checking on her two children.
