Residents living near the scene of a stabbing have called for CCTV and better lighting.
Robbers attacked a 32-year-old man as he walked home from Perivale station, through a path at the edge of Ealing Central Sports Ground at around 12.30am, on Thursday.
Ranmali Sanmugam, 47, of Scorton Avenue, said she walked down the path just hours before the crime took place.
She said: “It's a dangerous place late at night. When my kids come to the station we go and collect them because we won't take the chance.
“People loiter on benches. The only time you can go is if there's a lot of people.”
The pathway leads up from the tube station around a corner to the road where Ms Sanmugam lives.
She says it is difficult to make a judgement about whether the route is safe on leaving the station because she cannot see to the end.
She claims residents have already asked Ealing Council to put CCTV cameras in but said so far none have been installed.
Her 22-year-old daughter Sharmila said: “I get scared walking through that park. I think they need big floodlights, personally, and CCTV.”
Nia Mareva, of Colwin Avenue, said: “I'm quite scared to be honest because every single day I walk through here to go to the tube.
“I don't think there is any CCTV and I don't understand why. There are areas all over London where there are CCTV cameras.”
She says less serious anti-social behaviour is also a problem in the area, and one of the lampposts was recently vandalised.
Two black men, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, approached the victim and demanded his wallet before one stabbed him.
They then rifled through his pockets, taking his possessions.
The man was rushed to hospital where he is in a stable condition.
Anyone with information about the attack can contact Ealing CID on 0208 721 7045, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
