TWO "greedy" teenagers have been found guilty of murdering City lawyer Tom ap Rhys Pryce for his mobile phone, Oyster Card and £20.

Donnel Carty, 19, and Delano Brown, 18, stabbed the 31-year-old to death just yards from his home near Kensal Green Underground station, in north-west London.

Mr ap Rhys Pryce was robbed and knifed twice in the chest on the night of January 21 as he walked towards the house he shared with his fianceé Adele Eastman in the quiet residential area of Bathurst Gardens.

The lawyer, who specialised in litigation at law firm Linklater's, had planned to marry Ms Eastman, a solicitor with Farrers & Co, in September this year.

Pages printed from the web about their wedding arrangements were found near his body.

Carty, from Kensal Green, and Brown, from Sudbury Hill, denied the murder which shocked the nation.

On the night he died, Mr ap Rhys Pryce left a work social function at 10.45pm and called Ms Eastman five minutes later to let her know he would be home at about 11.30pm.

He was seen on CCTV leaving Kensal Green station at 11.22pm, moments later Carty and Brown ran after and caught him.

He tried to fight off the pair and was stabbed in the struggle.

A resident witnessed the attack and called police, Mr ap Rhys Pryce was found collapsed between parked cars outside number 90 and was rushed to hospital where he later died.

Carty and Brown had been caught on CCTV robbing another man, Kurshid Ali, at Kensal Green Station prior to Mr ap Rhys Pryce's murder.

Carty was also later caught using his Oyster card the next day at the same station.

Not long after the murder, both used their victim's mobile phone to call their girlfriends, with Carty's actually calling him back on the dead lawyer's number.

The first call was probably less than 15 minutes after Mr ap Rhys Pryce had been attacked.

A rucksack containing trainers with Mr ap Rhys Pryce's blood on it and a hooded top with fibres from his coat was later found at an address used by Brown.

Both pleaded guilty to robbing Mr Ali, but only Brown pleaded guilty to the robbery of Mr ap Rhys Pryce. They reportedly shook hands and embraced each other at the Old Bailey this afternoon after the verdict was handed down. They will be sentenced tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Teresa Defanis said at the verdict: "I am pleased with today's result and I thank the jury for convicting two dangerous criminals and removing them from our streets.

"In murdering Thomas ap Rhys Pryce, Carty and Brown ended the life of a man with so much to live for. A man embarking on a promising career, a man planning his future with the woman he loved, a man supported by a loving family.

"Carty and Brown were motivated by greed. This greed caused them to rob and kill Tom. Now a family have lost a son and brother and a fiance, her dreams of making a life with Tom.

"In complete contrast to a hardworking man like Tom, his murderers sought an easy life of preying on others with violence and taking what they had earned. The price they put on a man's life was £20, a mobile phone and an Oyster Card.

"Carty and Brown now face lengthy custodial sentences, but I want them to remember that Tom's family and fiance also face a life sentence without a person they loved and cared for."

  • A charity launched in the lawyer's memory has raised more than £750,000 and hopes to raise at least £1 million to help educate poor children. Linklater's has also funded a school in Vietnam in his memory. To make a donation go to www.tomaprhyspryce.com
