The historic Stag Brewery in Mortlake, west London, is to close its doors, putting nearly 200 workers at risk of redundancy.
Drinks giant InBev revealed plans to close the 600-year-old site, which is situated on the south bank of the River Thames, under a restructuring of its operations in the UK.
InBev said it was proposing to close the brewery, which produces Budweiser, Bud Ice and Michelob Ultra, in 2010.
Campaign group The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) called it a "sad day" for the industry, but acknowledged that the brewery had not made any real ale for some time.
The announcement followed last year's merger of InBev with Anheuser-Busch.
The company said in a statement: "This announcement is not a reflection on the quality of our employees, who will be an integral part of this process and will be treated with respect throughout.”
The brewery was previously owned by Watneys as well as a joint venture between Anheuser-Busch and Scottish Courage.
