Adams Childrenswear has fallen victim to the economic downturn with its Dartford store one of 111 to close down.
The branch in the Orchard shopping centre in the town centre closed down today (January 5), five days after the company went into administration.
Around 850 Adams employees across the country will be made redundant, including staff in Dartford.
A member of staff, who did not wish to be named, said: "I was told we were closing down when I turned up for work this morning."
Adams went into the hands of administrators from Price Waterhouse Coopers last Wednesday (December 31).
In a statement released today, administrator Rob Hunt said: "Following our appointment and in light of the current downturn being experienced on the high street, it is with regret that it has been necessary to effect the closure of 111 stores throughout the UK as of today.
"Unfortunately, this will inevitably lead to a number of job losses and 850 people across the company will be made redundant with immediate effect.
"My team and I will be doing all we can to help these employees at this difficult time."
Adams' remaining 160 stores will stay open while the administrators try to find a buyer for the business
