STANSTED: Lib Dems select general election candidate

Liberal Democrats have selected Peter Wilcock as the prospective parliamentary candidate for Saffron Walden at the next general election.

The next election will be fought on new boundaries with the constituency losing the Hedingham and Halstead Divisions and gain the Broomfield and Writtle areas of the borough of Chelmsford.

Mr Wilcock, the leader of Uttlesford District Council's Liberal Democrat group, has been a district councillor for Rickling and Widdington since 1995, and for Newport since 2003.

Mr Wilcock, who lives in Henham with his wife, Shirley, was chairman of Uttlesford District Council in 2005-06.

In 2001 Mr Wilcock stood for parliament in the Harlow constituency.

He said: "I know many of the people in this area are concerned about the pressures of development from housing and the airport. I'm certain it's time for a hard-working Liberal Democrat MP to take over, to represent all the people of this constituency."
