West Wickham High Street lorry crash: Truck overturns and crushes car

A LORRY has overturned on West Wickham High Street and crushed a car.

The A232 High Street, in West Wickham, is now blocked eastbound from the roundabout with Manor Park Road, near Bethlem Royal Hospital.

A Met Police spokesman said: “The incident happened around 3.10pm today.

“A waste lorry of some kind collided and landed on a car however thankfully no one is seriously injured.

“Both drivers have now gone to hospital as a precaution.

“Roads will be closed until the vehicles have been moved.”

A London Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.11pm today to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a car on Manor Park Road, West Wickham.

"We sent two ambulance crews, two single responders in a car and a duty manager.

"Our staff are treating a 63-year-old woman complaining of neck pain who will be taken to King's College Hospital, Denmark Hill.

"A man was also treated for an arm injury and taken to Princess Royal University Hospital."

Eyewitness Karen Lawler said on social networking site Twitter: “A scrap metal lorry was going round the roundabout and fell on its side and the metal flew out.”

She said she was "still in shock" after seeing the accident.
