What is a "balcony incident" I can understand if someone was mucking about or drunk like that girl a year or so ago (although she hadn't bothered with insurance) but in this case was the balcony safe etc

People dont just fall off a balcony do they now. Was it drink or drug related is my question ?

Slander!! Malicious comments and threats !! How sad some of the people who read this news paper really are!! These are all issues that can be taken to the police!!! The story is about charlie who is in turkey in hospital needing an urgent operation and all you can say is nasty things about myself!! Crazy batty you need to get a life and stop snooping on peoples face book walls what has gone on between myself and charlie is none of you business and as you can see has upset my daughter!! Charlie's mum has been desperately trying to get help for charlie no insurance covers balcony falls regardless of suicide drink drugs or an accident look it up!!! I have donated towards getting charlie home in my own way and I'm sure giving up a 30 pound a month gym fee would not do anybody any good!! Obviously you have so many issues that you can't see beyond your own nose! Have you donated towards this? Or are you that callous that you can slander charlie and myself without trying to help! There's lots of good kind hearted people out there that have and are helping towards getting charlie home what sort of person would I be if I didn't want him home and on the road to recovery regardless of any problems that may or may not of happened you all really do need to sit and rethink the comments you have made on here as one day it may be you needing help!

Cannot believe they won't fly him home.
So sad, hope he gets the treatment he needs.

oh and for those asking about the insurance company they tend to use the wording exposure to danger which seems to get them to get them out of a lot of claims or hazardous acvity they can use this to cover a lot of accidents unless you are being a hero trying to save someone then they will pay out!! so i suggest we all in future read the policies we buy instead of presuming they cover everything

Why should the British tax payer pay for his 2nd Op at Kings there are people that work 45 hours or more hours every week and pay there taxes that can not have op's that they need. so why should this man be made a priority when this never happened in this country. If he fell off the balcony due to poor maintenance of the Hotel then it should be down to them and there insurance company to fund his flight home and 2nd op. If it wasn't cause of poor maintenance of the balcony then he should have to also pay for his 2nd op at Kings.

In an earlier article, his family said he had told the doctors that he had jumped off the balcony. If this is true, the consequences would not be covered by any insurance company, as it would be considered an act of self-harm. If, however, he fell off a balcony because it was too low, not fixed in place properly etc, then the hotel would be liable and should be sued. Thus, there is no need for the insurance company to cover / pay out for any type of 'balcony incident' as there is always someone whose negligence is to blame. I have sympathy for the gentleman being so badly injured far from home, but he and his family shouldn't be criticising the insurance company who are, in this case, quite correct in refusing to pay his repatriation costs.
I hope someone comes up with the money soon. Maybe the Newsshopper could contribute to apologise for not removing the dubious comments sooner? (The comments which break the Site Terms due to being malicious, regardless of truth or otherwise.)

The first time this story appeared I said this "I sympathise with this family's plight but you have to ask why insurance companies now don't cover 'balcony incidents'. I can't recall the last time one happened in the UK but abroad Brits are doing it in great numbers and it isn't hard to figure out why. I hope the family are able to borrow the money and bring him home but for me I'm afraid there are other causes I would rather donate to.”. I am prepared to give £50 if someone WHO KNOWS, not some guess work, actually says what happened, how and what time of the day. If people expect donations then people who might donate can be expected to judge whether it was a reckless act that caused the injury. I think it is only fair if you expect money from strangers that they don't read two stories that exclude the actual detail of what happened.

It would take a very hard hearted person not to feel some sympathy with the plight of this young man and his family and I do sympathise. However, people don't just "fall" over balconies! I recall in the very first report of this that there was mention that the young man concerned had recently lost his father and was not in the best frame of mind. Clearly this is not therefore a case of the insurance company being difficult - the reality is that why should they pay out for someone who acted may have acted recklessly!? Then there is mention of "sue the hotel" - errr, why???? (by the way good luck with suing a Turkish hotel through the Turkish courts - it would take years). People need to stop looking to blame other parties for this outcome and take responsibility for their own actions. Of course I wish them well, and yes of course once he comes home, which he will, then he should receive the very best care our NHS can provide, that is his right regardless of where the accident happened.

Hes a good lad, who doesnt deserve such comments or doubt thrown in. He didnt jump, nor were drink or drugs involved as he was tested for them. The toxicology report came back as a total NEGATIVE. So cast that Assumption out of that lonely brain cell. If you have anything negative to say, then dont bother, as Charlie needs all the Positive energy sent... not you foolish negative rubbish awaiting a responce... how sad these Trolls are.....

I make you right. I was genuinely prepared to donate £50 but somehow feel there is something to hide so I won't donate. There is nothing negative or vindiictive about what I have said and your comment is right, it isn't unreasonable to ask when the family are looking for donations

The one thing I would say is does it actually matter what happened exactly? Even if he had been drinking (which I'm not implying he was), would it really matter? I'm sure we have all done stupid things, and it doesn't mean that we wouldn't be entitled to compassion and help.

I know what you're saying fella, and can agree with you in some ways. Actually I'm probably too soft when it comes to helping people out. I'm always handing money out and lending it to people. But I guess I'm saying that I still have compassion for this guy whether or not it was his fault. If you saw a drunk guy fall off a wall he was climbing and laying there dying, you wouldn't just leave him. You'd still call the ambulance and hope that he's ok. I guess I'm saying we all do really stupid things sometimes but some of get lucky and some don't.

This is just a guess. I could be wrong but whoever replies 'on behalf of the family' please avoid accusing me of being vindictive, it's just not the right word. My guess is that when the Consulate found out what happened and HOW, they offered limited support because they thought 'serves you right'. The insurers felt much the same and didn't cover it. I was more than prepared to donate and have asked twice to get the details of what happened but my messages are being ignored, along with everyone else who is asking the same. So I can only conclude that the details are such that the familiy KNOW that if the story is told that people will make a judgement and that judgement will be 'oh if it happened like that then it serves him right for doing it'. Newsshopper: YOU have a duty here. If someone comes to you asking to publicise a cry for funds then you have to ensure it is bone -fide and you have to ensure the whole story is being told otherwise you do your readers an injustice and you open the door to every bleeding heart who wants money. To me I make the same judgement as I do when some scrote says 'I lost all my money, can I have money for the bus home' I refuse and see them time and time again doing the same to others. It's not about not wanting to help. Its about not giving my earned cash to someone who caused an accident because they were doing something stupid , which is my GUESS, it doesn't matter if they were sober or not. I GUESS he fell whilst being a pratt and I would rather give my money, emphasis on 'my money'. to someone who had an unfortunate accident whilst on holiday and needs to return home.
