WHITE Oak Leisure Centre is throwing open its doors to the public, letting them see how it helps rehabilitate heart diseases sufferers.

People will be able to get diet and exercise advice as well as eat healthy food prepared by a chef.

The centre, in Hilda May Avenue, Swanley, is hosting the open day on Sunday (October 28) from 10.00am to 2.00pm.

Sue Larken, cardiac instructor at the centre, said: “It can be completely terrifying for anyone recovering from cardiac illness to even think about exercise and diet when the most basic of daily chores can require effort on a Herculean scale.

“What we do here is work with people who are at a stage in their recovery where they would benefit from exercise.

“I am delighted we have seen many people come through our doors and whose recovery has been helped considerably by sensible and informed programmes of exercise.”

Ray Webb, 70, suffered a heart attack in January 2009. He has attended the centre twice a week for the past three years.

He said: “The work I have been doing with the instructors at White Oak as part of my recovery has been amazing,”

“Not only has it been important in helping me rebuild my health, it has renewed my confidence and improved my fitness.

“I can once again enjoy life and many of the things it has to offer. “I feel fitter now than I did at 60.”
