Olympic heroes will be among those making a special appearance at this year’s Sports Personality of the Year awards at ACS Cobham International School.
Olympians Andy Triggs Hodge, James Foad and Mo Sbihi from Molesey Boat Club, James Tindall and Matt Daley from Surbiton Hockey Club will join guest presenter Michael Aspel at the event on Friday, October 19.
About 600 guests and sports personalities will celebrate and reward the outstanding performances of local clubs and athletes, as well as recognising Elmbridge’s coaches and volunteers.
Winners in more than 14 categories, including individuals, clubs, teams, volunteers and schools will be rewarded for their skills, talent and dedication to sport.
Guests will have the chance to have their picture taken with an Olympic torch, interview Olympians and hear their stories of outstanding achievements.
Torch bearers and Games Makers from the area will talk about their experience of the Games and what it meant to them.
Councillor Barry Cheyne, chairman of the Elmbridge Sports Council, said: “Elmbridge has a strong sporting tradition resulting in so many excellent achievements throughout the borough. We look forward to rewarding those outstanding sports men and women in what has been a magnificent year of sport.”
The evening will be the final event of the Elmbridge Celebrates festival, to inspire people to lead healthier lifestyles, get more active and celebrate the cultural diversity of the borough.
