YOUNG bookworms who completed a free reading challenge have been awarded for their achievement.
Three children from every library in the borough were presented with a certificate and Story Lab goodie bag at the Civic Offices by Bexley's Mayor, Councillor Alan Downing.
Storyteller Sandra Agard entertained the crowd with her tales at the presentation ceremony.
The challenge formed part of the cultural Olympiad and ran in all Bexley libraries from July 14 to September 9.
During this time, 4,455 children took part, with nearly half completing the challenge by reading six books or more.
Cabinet member for sport and leisure, Councillor Don Massey, said: "Recent research has shown the reading challenge increases children’s reading ranges, their motivation to read and boosts confidence.
"This event was a wonderful celebration of what our young people have achieved this summer."
