THIRTY firefighters and six fire engines tackled a house fire in Welling this afternoon.

The London Fire Brigade was called at 12.39pm to the blaze in Wickham Street.

Crews from Plumstead, Erith, Eltham, Sidcup, and Bexley fire stations attended the scene.

An aerial appliance from Forest Hill fire station was also in attendance, tackling flames in the roof.

The ground and first floor of the property were severely damaged by the fire and the roof was completely destroyed.

The fire also caused some damage to the roofs of the houses either side of the property.

The brigade brought the fire under control at 1.53pm.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

London Ambulance Service is currently standing by at the scene.

I drove past this about 1250, it looked very nasty hope every one was ok and thank god for the fast emergency response. Its times like this that you realise how many emergency vehicles it takes to dill with a situation like this.

One does hope all the plumes of "happy" smoke has made Welling a slightly nicer place to be!

the junior school opposite had to be evacuated and all the children were moved into the infant school so it must have been bad for them to evacuate the school.

The school wasn't evacuated. The children were moved to the infant school at 3pm for collection at home time because no one could get into the junior school playground.
