Russian prostitute 'kicked and stamped' 69-year-old Ewell man to death, court hears

A "lonely and difficult old man" was kicked and stamped to death by a Russian prostitute who then cut the phone lines before fleeing his house, a court has heard.

Natalia Woolley, 38, of Baron’s Court Road, West Kensington, appeared at Guildford Crown Court today for the murder of 69-year-old Winston Fernandez, whose decomposing body was found at his home in Longdown Lane North, Ewell, on February 13.

The court heard that Mr Fernandez, a retired accountant who was estranged from his sons and whose wife died in 2000, suffered fractures to 17 of his ribs during the attack on the night of January 16 and died from internal injuries.

But Ms Wolley denies intending to kill the man she had provided sex and companionship for on a number of occasions, saying she lashed out at Mr Fernandez as he was drunk, aggressive and had "treated her like shit".

William Saunders, prosecuting, told the jury: "The defendant was the last person to see him alive. She killed him. She intended to kill him or intended to cause him really serious harm."

He added: "He was beaten to death. By beaten, we mean punched and kicked. 

"There were severe injuries to the victim’s chest, neck and abdomen, and 17 fractured ribs. Two bones in his larynx were fractured, and there was extensive bruising to his head, face, trunk, legs and back.

"The injuries will have left him almost unable to move and with great difficulty in breathing.

"When interviewed, the defendant admitted an altercation during which he had fallen on the floor and that she had kicked him and then fallen on him.  In reality, she kicked and stamped on him using severe force.

"She had killed him in a brutal way in a frenzied attack."

The blonde-haired escort, who was dressed in a cream coat and wore pink-rimmed glasses, followed the case through a Russian interpreter seated in a box in the corner of the court. 

The jury heard that before leaving Mr Fernandez’s house, she cut the wires on both of his telephones - including one in the master bedroom, where he was found dead.

Mr Saunders said: "Before she left, she cut the telephone lines. She was to say in her interview that she did this to stop the victim from calling her. The logic of this is difficult to see."

In the days and weeks which followed, Ms Woolley made another two visits to Longdown Lane North - one to "check if the lights were on" in Mr Fernandez’s house. She also made a number of calls to the property, the court heard.
