AN INVESTIGATION is under way after 13 people were injured when two double-deck buses collided at a bus stop.

Transport for London is looking into how the 320 double-deck bus hit the back of a 208 double-deck bus at the stop behind Boots, Widmore Road, Bromley.

Shopkeepers opposite reported hearing a loud bang as the buses collided and then saw ambulance crews taking people off the bus on stretchers.

And one of the bus passengers who had been jerked backwards in the crash was taken into nearby Bromley United Reformed Church to sit down before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.

The casualties suffered a range of injuries including cuts and bruises, neck pain and whiplash.

Two of the injured people were given neck collars and then put on spinal boards and it is thought they were taken to Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill.

London Ambulance crews also took four people to Lewisham Hospital and four people to Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough.

The other three injured people were treated at the scene and did not need hospital treatment.

Transport for London’s head of operations for London Buses, Ken Davidson, said: “At around 10:50am on September 25 a route 320 double deck bus, operated by Metrobus, was in collision with route 208 double deck bus, operated by Selkent on Widmore Road, near Court Street, in Bromley.”

And a TfL spokesman said: “The investigation has been started but I am afraid I cannot really give an indication of time scales. “We would normally get a full report on conclusion.”
