Police called to argument over American Idol at a Bromley house

Police called to argument over American Idol at a Bromley house Police called to argument over American Idol at a Bromley house

A HEATED discussion about the merits of American Idol is just one of the quirkier incidents police have been sent to after receiving a 999 call in the past week.

Officers were called to an address in Bromley at about 3.30am on Friday morning (September 28) by a concerned member of the public after they heard a woman screaming.

But when the emergency response unit arrived the embarrassed occupants admitted they had been involved in a heated discussion about the American talent show.

Both apologised profusely that the police had to be called and for wasting police time.

A Bromley police spokesman said: "We were happy that there was an innocent explanation to this and that there was no-one requiring assistance on this occasion."

It says something about the way our society is organised doesn't it?

Where are they when one reports a burglary?

They are out there all day and all night, patrolling when you are sleeping and at work trying to prevent burglarly. Putting burglars in prison, it's the courts and the "system" that keeps letting them out to re-offend.

When you report a burglary, they will be there!!!

Householders need to be more proactive too in preventing burglaries. Burglars don't like alarms, even if you have a dummy bellbox on the outside of your house, the burglars don't know it's not real, and will move onto someone else's house who hasn't got one.

It's pot luck, being burgled to a certain extent, but there is so much you can do to put them off.

So a couple had a row. It happens. The person who wasted police time was the neighbour who called the police.

The targetting motorists that you mention is presumably aimed at Op Cubo. Targeting motorists is right. Targetting motorists who don't pay their insurance. You and I pay ours, and it's expensive isn't it? That's because so many people don't!!! We're out there to catch them, and it works. Beware, if you have no insurance, we will find you and we will have your car!!!

Plastic none of us want to see uninsured or untaxed motorist on the road, I want to see more or the same effort put into burglaries. Those 47 coppers on normal duties who knows what they would of caught or detered.

A police presence in any area is a deterent for any crime. Boots on the ground is what we need, well and stop and search.

But does it make figures look good? 47 policemen targeting motorists & finding one drunk driver smacks of what Time & Motion Inspectors would call "spare capacity".

Well I must say I loved William Hung on American Idol trying to sing She Bangs.

You don't know the whole story. Last weeks operation took more uninsured drivers cars off the road than ever before.

A lot more effort is put into burglaries every day, unfortunately, usually it's only the negative stories that get reported.

As I motorist I don't have a problem with police targeting uninsured / untaxed and add on the phone and driving like a tw@t to the list - I'd like to think it could be self-funding though and allow more police to be deployed elsewhere

I guess it's down to who pays the wages / and where income from fines goes to...

How would it be self funded?

The money from seizures goes to the company that seizes the vehicles and the treasury. Namely £200 fine, £120 seizure and I believe its £15 a day storage. Oh yes, an 6 points on your licence!

I'de like to tell you everytime we caught a burglar but that would be divulging information I'm not at liberty to divulge.

Why? Surely if someone hears screams they are quite right in calling then police - suppose it had been an assault
