Operation Cubo leads to arrests and seized vehicles in Bexley

Police used ANPR devices to track uninsured drivers.
BEXLEY police seized seven vehicles and stopped 243 drivers during a capital-wide operation on Thursday (September 27).
The operation, titled Operation Cubo, specifically targeted uninsured drivers by using automatic number plate recognition devices.
Across the borough, a total of 47 police officers arrested two people – one for being drunk behind the wheel and another on suspicion of fraud.
Fixed penalty notices were issued to 17 drivers while two motorists were given cannabis warnings.
Bexley Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Victor Olisa said: “We’re targeting uninsured drivers to tackle criminal activity and to improve the safety of our roads in Bexley.
“Many uninsured drivers use their vehicles to facilitate their illegal activities and denying them the use of the roads makes it harder for them to commit crime.”
Since Operation Cubo was launched in October last year, nearly 37,000 vehicles have been seized across London.

Why should law-breaking motorists not be targeted like any other law breaker?
If these motorists were driving as they are required to by law, they wouldn't be targeted.
Over 20,000 people are killed or seriously injured every year, the vast majority the result of motorists either failing to drive competently, or driving negligently, illegally, or recklessly.

So one drunk driver, one fraud, 17 fixed penalty, lets all assume the fraud and fixed penalties were motoring related, forget the puff nonsense, 47 officers to arrest one what I call serious offence the drunk driver. Great use of resources RoyalCitizen ???
We would of all been much better served if these 47 were out on the streets walking the beat over the course of a shift.

Guess who ;) AGAIN ! wrote:...and 7 vehicles were seized, ie. the drivers were uninsured or did not have licence. Keep in mind that drivers like this are many times more likely to cause accidents than other drivers - I would consider this a good result. It also makes other illegal road users think twice. And insurance premuims might even drop if we get of illegal motorists on our roads.

No doubt this is beause of the thousands of uninsured drivers who have been taken off the road and whose premiums and accidents we no longer pay for. So well done police, please get the rest of them off our roads as soon as soon as possible.
