THREE youngsters at a Sidcup school were prouder than others to walk through their school gates this term.

In a unique competition, more than 60 students at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, in Hurst Road, battled it out to design the school’s new gates earlier this year.

With the winning design chosen before the summer holidays, 15-year-olds Annie Greenhead and Tasnia Haqu and 16-year-old Laura Okanajiofor were thrilled to see their masterpiece become a reality.

School project manager Anthony Sullivan said: “The gates will stand for many years to come and will play a major part in the everyday school life at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School.

“Perhaps the children of the lucky winners in later years will be walking through the gates their mothers designed!”

The school teaches 1,450 students, aged between 11 and 18.
