Gravesend Highways Agency traffic officer killed attending M25 crash

A HIGHWAYS Agency traffic officer from Gravesend was killed while attending a minor collision on the M25.

The 60-year-old man was attending a minor one-vehicle collision on the motorway at 1.40pm yesterday (September 25) when he was struck by a passing car.

Emergency services were then called to the clockwise carriageway at junction five, near south Chevening, at 2.50pm but paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene at 3.15pm.

He was hit by a maroon coloured Vauxhall Vectra that was carrying three passengers at the time.

Two of the passengers were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with minor injuries.

Following the incident, the M25 was closed in both directions between Orpington and Sevenoaks while the air ambulance attended.

The road was fully re-opened in both directions by 10pm.

Highways Agency traffic officers were introduced in 2006 to work alongside police on the country's motorways, aiming to reduce congestion caused by traffic incidents.
