Councillors will discuss pedestrian crossing proposals put forward following the removal of the Tartar Hill footbridge at a special Elmbridge local committee meeting on Thursday.

The footbridge on the A307 Portsmouth Road at Tartar Hill was removed in January 2012, after a lorry crashed in to it, and the council launched a consultation on a suitable alternative.

Options put forward by Elmbridge Council included doing nothing and encouraging people to use alternative crossings already in place, putting in a zebra crossing, as well as several other alternatives.

The council concluded in June that it was not appropriate to do nothing and recommended the central island near the health centre be modified to accommodate pedestrians and a central island where the bridge stood.

Councillors are asked to consider and comment on the solution being put forward at the meeting will be held at the civic centre on Thursday, September 27, at 5pm.
