Greenwich residents invited to check out jobs at new Woolwich superstore

GREENWICH residents are invited to check out jobs available at a new superstore set to open in Woolwich in November.

Supermarket giant Tesco, which will open in Love Lane, will create 350 jobs and residents have until October 5 to grab an application form and put their names forward.

There will be 100 places offered to long-term unemployed residents to give a boost to families in the borough, according to a store spokesman.

The site is part of the multi-million pound Woolwich Central development where the first 259 homes of the project are expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

Tesco’s Regional Corporate Affairs Manager Matt Magee, said: “We’re very proud to be working with Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLaB) to deliver 100 new jobs for long term unemployed residents in the borough.

"These new jobs and the other roles in store will make a huge difference to hundreds of families across the area when we start serving customers in November.”

Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, enterprise and skills Cllr Denise Hyland said: “I’m delighted that we are nearing the opening of this impressive new Tesco store in the heart of Woolwich. It will provide a boost to the local economy, especially in terms of employment.

“The development of the whole site at Love Lane has involved local workers from the start and now the opening of the new Tesco will see a further 350 jobs created.

Application forms are available until October 5 at the Old Library Calderwood Street, Woolwich, or the Work and Learn Centre, 3 Green Place, Greenwich.
