FIREFIGHTERS spent the night in Istead Rise after 100 tons of hay caught fire.

One fire engine from Thameside was called to the field, in Wrotham Road, at 1.30am this morning (September 20).

Crews worked throughout the night to bring the fire under control before carrying out a ‘watching brief’, where they monitor the area until it is safe.

Time was then spent dampening down the hay before the firefighters left at 9.30am this morning.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
