A man has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for smuggling cocaine in sandals.

Ugur Oguzca, 39, from Walton, pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court to two charges of importing class A drugs.

Surrey Police’s cross border investigation team was informed of a suspicious package addressed to a woman in Walton.

The woman had met Oguzca on a dating site and claimed she had not known the parcel contained drugs.

Oguzca was abroad when the investigation began. Upon returning to the UK he was arrested and was charged after a second package arrived at the same address.

Following sentencing on Thursday, Investigating officer Detective Constable Paul Constable, said: “Anyone involved in the supply of class A drugs in Surrey should know that we will be actively pursuing them and doing everything we can to make it as difficult as possible for them to operate in Surrey.

“It is also an important reminder for members of the public to be aware that people they meet over the internet might not be all they seem.”

Judging by the foreign name, he may not be from Walton, just staying there in between criminal activities.
