Baby given bottle of 'bleach' by woman in Eltham High Street McDonald's

PARENTS in Eltham are being warned by police after an 11-month-old baby boy was given a bottle believed to contain bleach by a woman in McDonald's.

Police took to Twitter this afternoon to issue the warning, after the baby boy was handed the bottle in the Eltham High Street branch.

It is believed the boy drank some of the liquid before vomiting it back up.

He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich at around 12.40pm for observation where he remains in a stable condition.

At this stage no other children are believed to have been affected.

The woman is described by police as a heavily-built white female in her 50s with grey hair.

She was wearing black trousers, black trainers, a long multi-coloured top and a black jacket with white chevron type markings. She also carried a maroon bag.

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 0208 284 9543 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111

Secondly, why would any parent take a bottle that was filled?

I know the woman should be locked up for it but then i cant help but wonder the stupidity of the parents for taking the bottle

Where does it say that the parents accepted the bottle? From what I can see it would seem that the woman handed the bottle directly to the baby. I would imagine that the parents didn't notice until it was too late, as no parent in their right mind would allow their child to drink from a bottle handed over by a complete stranger.

Unless you know something that I don't?

What were the parents doing that they were too busy to notice someone approach their child and give him a bottle??

Regardless if the parents took it off someone or not the lack of parental care and supervision has alot to be desired

Basically no one knows why or how this happened. Far too easy to blame the parents or judge them for being where they were or not noticing. Most of the time you trust strangers not to poison your child! I don't remember this sort of sideways blame at the mother when Jamie Bulger was abducted.

Easy to blame the parents, but there's not really enough information in this story to do that. They could have been in the queue, and have only got to look away for a moment for someone to put a bottle in a baby's hands. Surely no parent would actually accept a bottle of liquid off a stranger and feed it to their child.

Sky News is jumping on this story and making once again Eltham look bad. I'm surprised their helicopter wasn't hovering above the High Street all night. As the council has a well resourced PR team it should do something about this.

Those of you making comments about the parents etc are sick. None of you know exactly what happened and are probably too narrow minded and on you pedalstalls to realise that as a parent anything can happen in a split second. The parent did not take the bottle from a stranger, it happened in a split second and luckily the parent/grandparent was there and quickly acted. I know as a parent if my daughter was in her buggy strapped in and i was sitting next to her i would think it would be safe in a public place to turn and look out the window. Any of you that say other wise are either not a parent or lying. You would not expect someone to do something so cruel and what the poor child has been through and what their families must be feeling is heart breaking for me as a parent to imagine and your thoughtless nasty comments are not wanted nor needed and they certainly wont help. I cant believe how many people out there jump to such nasty conclusions when they no nothing other than what is written in a paper and the worse part is the above story doesnt even tell you any details and straight away you are fabricating a story of your own that has no truth or reference to the actual occurence. I am saddened that there are so many people ready to say cruel things about such a terrible situation.

Totally agree, only it doesn't actually say the parents took the bottle then gave it to the child, I really can't believe a parent would put anything from a total stranger in the mouth of their kid, that aside, when my kid's were young I don't think there was ever a split second when I was out with them, that a person could give them a sideways glance, yet alone a bottle of poison, parents beware, there's a sick would be child killer out there, and she will be back.

It's called speculation and this is the comment section where by people can leave comments much like what you have done.

I will point out that you also throw accusations about the posters yet know nothing about them.

I just can't believe what I have just read, a whole news report about Eltham from the News Shopper that hasn't mentioned Stephen Lawrence. This must be a first.

Good to hear the lad is ok.

I said their comments are nasty and narrow minded that is not an accusation that is a observation from there comments left regarding this story and how it must be the parents thought etc. And i am not saying they cant have opinions on facts but they were creating their own stories about what happened when it is not true nor even mentioned in the article. That is complete fabrication and not classed as an opinion.

So they can have an opinion as long as you don't get up set about it. People formed their own opinions on what the know and what they read.... they the posters speculated. No one has said it's fact. Really in the grand scheme of things it has done no one any harm. Just words on a screen. Can I ask are you new to the internet?

I think that now more facts have come out, it vindicates the parents. It was obvious that the parents wouldn't have actually taken a bottle from a stranger. Some people on here were getting very high and mighty about how this wouldn't have happened to them because they're such great parents. However, in reality, it could have happened to any parents. Nobody can claim to having their eyes on a child's buggy 100% of the time. If someone walks past and drops something slyly into it, then you can't blame the parents.

At least the main thing is that someone has now been arrested. Let's hope this sick person is banged up for a long time!
