Trend in young people stashing drugs in body orifices carries health risks, say police
A TREND in young people stashing drugs inside their bodies to escape arrest has led to health warnings by police.
The caution comes after four drug-dealing teenagers were arrested in Greenwich for concealing drugs in body orifices in the past month.
Police say the recent rise in this unusual hiding place is down to mistaken advice from "senior" drug dealers who mistakenly claim people will not be arrested in such cases.
Head of Greenwich violent and organised crime unit Detective Inspector James Harper said: "Young people involved in drugs seem to be unaware of the health issues that may be caused by this trend - criminals advising them on how to conceal drugs are not interested in their wellbeing.
"We often recover the drugs when they have been hidden inside the body and in the majority of cases we will arrest suspects and bring them before the court. Hiding the drugs in any body cavity will not prevent prosecution."
