Rail death on Chatham Main Line

A FATALITY on the Chatham Main Line in Kent closed the track in both directions this morning.

At around 11.15 the 09.04 service from Dover Priory to Victoria was carrying around 200 people when it struck a person in the Farningham Road area.

Emergency services were called and an ambulance attended.

The train itself was damaged in the incident and has had to be taken out of service.

Southeastern Trains said coaches and buses were organised for passengers at stations en route and mainline ticket holders were allowed to use high speed services from Rochester without further charge.

At 11.50 the line towards Kent was re-opened and trains were up and running towards London by 12.30.

A spokeswoman for Southeastern said: "We'd like to thank people for their patience in this difficult situation.

"We've worked as quickly as possible to keep people moving on their journeys while assisting the emergency services.

"We've also looked after those who've been delayed by giving out bottled water and assisting with alternative travel arrangements."

Oh my God NS do you have to tell us the train was damaged and had to be taken out of service. Far too much information, I'm sure Angel49 will be so offended............

Now what's your problem cookie boy ?

Swearing on the NS or the net is a big no no, some people would say it shows a lack of intelligence even.

Good evening.

Yet on the story about someone being killed at Woolwich Dockyard you complained because NS hadn't given details if they were hit by a train or electrocuted

Make up your mind, do you want the gory details or not?

It makes me laugh how this focuses on how damaged the train is and not on the loss of the poor man who died in such a horrible way. My thoughts are with his family x

"the poor man who died in such a horrible way"!?! jesus, that's the kind of thing that makes my blood boil... the poor train driver who smashed into him should be where your thoughts are... not on the idiot who possibly ruined a drivers career, who possibly delayed thousands of peoples daily journeys, accident or suicide doesn't matter... he's still an idiot with no thought for anyone else, the media never stops to ask themselves... i wonder how the poor train driver is?
