Crime in Kingston drops Crime in Kingston drops

Crime rates in Kingston have dropped in the past three months.

In May, 869 offences were recorded, in June there were 866 and in July the figure dropped to 834 offences.

Neighbouring borough Richmond recorded 1,069 crimes and Wandsworth recorded 2,258 crimes in July.

More than half of the crimes recorded in Kingston last month were of an antisocial nature with Grove, Beverley and Norbiton wards where most crimes took place.

Beverley ward councillor Derek Osbourne, leader of Kingston Council, said: “There are richer London borough’s that would only dream to have the crime rates we have.

“We need to put this in context and compare ourselves to these other boroughs.

“In New Malden there are four pubs, a main railway station and a high street which all tend to lead to low level antisocial behaviour from a minority.”

The least antisocial wards were Coombe Vale, Alexandra and Surbiton Hill.

Crimes such as business robbery and motor vehicle theft affected the borough the least in July.

I have serious doubts about the way crime is recorded. I know from an F.O.I. I recently submitted that the allegations of alleged crime in Kingston is about 33% higher than what actually goes down as a crime record, such a high difference I find unreal and it leads me to suspect the crime record numbers are being manipulated. Further when checking how many real Police man hours was spent actually on the streets by SNT officers for the month of June under an F.O.I. request, it revealed that the Police only spent 1.4 hrs on the street in one ward in Kingston Borough, in other words they were NOT on our streets patrolling for over three quarters of the day. Surprise, Surprise in that ward in the last two months crime went up. We are paying Council Tax Police levy for SNT's in Kingston that we are not actually getting. However since the Police now do not appear to be accountable to the people they serve it would seem there is nothing the people can do about it.
