Shock at shooting and stabbings in Beckenham Hill Shock at shooting and stabbings in Beckenham Hill

MEMBERS of the Beckenham Hill community spoke of their shock at the violence which occurred yesterday afternoon.

A man was shot and two were stabbed at around 4.55pm on Tuesday following a fight on Beckenham Hill Road.

Police and ambulance staff attended the scene and the three men were taken to south London hospitals.

None of their injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

A witness who works in the area but didn’t want to be named said he saw an Asian man being driven in a people carrier.

He said: “He was completely covered in blood and his head kept lolling to the side.

“It was obvious he hadn’t just slipped and hit his head.”

People who live nearby expressed shock and sadness about what had happened.

Clifton Mitchell, 45, said: “It’s madness, they keep killing themselves through incidents like this, it’s ridiculous.”

Mr Mitchell, who lives in Beckenham Hill Road, got the 54 bus nearby at around 10pm and said the area was still taped up with lots of police around.

Miguel Boex, of Thurban Road, Catford, said he heard the police helicopters around the golf course yesterday evening and a large police presence in the area.

The 39-year old said: “I didn’t know what was going on; I thought it was something to do with the golf course.”

Eight people have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody at south London police stations.

Officers from the Met Police’s Trident unit are investigating.
