Charity to hold dog show in Banstead to raise money for Egyptian animals

The Animal Welfare of Luxor charity still needs to raise £20,000 for its centre in Egypt
A charity aiming to give injured and neglected animals in Egypt the care they deserve has organised a dog show to raise more funds for a medical centre.
The Animal Welfare of Luxor (AWOL) Dog Show will be held on August 19 at Mint Park Stables, Park Road, Banstead, and there are prizes to be won.
Run entirely by volunteers, AWOL was set up in 2007 by Jan Bennal and her mother Dawn Wallace, from Epsom.
Having both studied Egyptology and visited Egypt many times, they were appalled at the suffering of animals such as dogs, cats, horses and donkeys, particularly on the West Bank of the River Nile
in Luxor where very poor farming communities are situated.
AWOL’s mobile team gives free veterinary treatment and medicines, equine tack and dog collars and provides education about better animal care to poor owners in Luxor.
But the charity still needs to raise £20,000 to complete and fully equip the medical centre it has set up there, which it hopes to open by the end of the month to start to use some of its
facilities.
The competition will have 20 pedigree and novelty categories, with a £1 entry fee - pedigrees and crossbreeds are all welcome.
