  • "Excellent. It is so expensive when you gave a child in hospital. Food, travel, drinks, magazines, accommodat
ion, parking etc. It all adds up. Dome people just leave their children in hospital and visit occasionally; sounds bad and callous, but what to do? Well fine to all concerned"

Quiz night helps mum to stay by ill son's bedside

A MUM will be able to stay with her seriously ill son in hospital thanks to fundraisers.

A quiz night at Thamesmead Town Football Club on Friday (July 6) raised more than £1,760 so that eight-year-old Jack Huggett’s mum, Steph, can stay with him at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where he is expected to be for more than a month.

Jack has mental and physical disabilities, heart problems and is fed through a tube. He has had numerous operations and was not expected to live past five. It costs his family £20 a day to stay with him.

The quiz night was organised by family friends Sarah Smith and Hayley Carter, and Hayley’s mum Sharon Gregory.

Mrs Gregory said: “It was amazing. There were 15 teams with six players on average. Some of the prizes donated were far too good to give in a raffle so was did an auction at the end, which was brilliant.

“It would not have gone ahead if it wasn’t for Thamesmead Town Football Club. They let us have the hall for nothing.”
