A MENTAL health trust says it is investigating after a patient stabbed a man in the back in broad daylight.

Police were called to the scene at Herbert Road, Plumstead, on June 29 at around 4.40pm.

They found a man suffering from a stab wound to the back who was subsequently taken to hospital. He has since returned home.

Police arrested a man who has been bailed to return to a south-east London police station in August and was sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

A spokesman for Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the man was now in their care.

He said: "Prior to this he had been using community based mental health services.

"We take all incidents seriously and are cooperating fully with the police as their investigation continues. We will also complete a thorough investigation into the care provided by the trust."
