A TRIAL doorstep collection scheme has seen more than a tonne of second-hand clothing put to good use.
Accessible to 12,000 households in Welling, Bexleyheath and Barnehurst, the Bexley Council backed service TRAID - Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development - has been in operation since March this year.
The aim of the service is to collect unwanted textiles – such as clean and dry second-hand clothing, towels and linen – and put them to good use, either for re-use in a charity shop or by recycling.
With the five-month trial period coming to an end in July, the council will consider rolling the service out across the borough in the future, depending on its success.
