These maths whizz kids have won medals for their outstanding performance in a national competition.

Aaron Jones, 14, and 15-year-olds Andrew Orr and Alistair Miller were named among the top young mathematicians in the country after they made it to the final stage of the UK Maths Trust contest.

The Hampton School pupils took part with 250,000 other year 9, 10 and 11 pupils from around the UK.

All thee reached the final stage, which saw them sit a challenging two hour paper, in which they had to write full answers to six questions and show an ability to construct a detailed, logical and well-presented mathematical solution.

They were celebrating this week after being scored in the top 100 in the country for their age group, with Aaron getting into the top 50.

Chris Aubrey, a maths teacher at Hampton School, said: “Aaron, Andrew and Alistair should be extremely proud of their outstanding individual achievements.”
