WALKERS have trekked nine miles through Greenwich celebrate the Olympic year.
Members of the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) met at the Cutty Sark on April 15 for a taster walk to attract potential new members.
The group met at 10am and took a nine mile route through Greenwich Park, past the Thames Barrier, through Maryon Wilson Park, past the O2 and Woolwich Barracks, finishing at Woolwich Arsenal station.
This year marks the LDWA’s 40th anniversary and it has a membership of around 700 people.
Its annual event involves walking 100 miles in 48 hours. This year it will be held from June 2 to June 4 and will start at Victoria Park in east London.
To mark the Queen's Jubilee celebrations and the Olympics, this year’s route takes walkers around the Olympic Zone, through Surrey and finishes among the Jubilee celebrations in Windsor. Visit ldwa.org.uk for more information.
