A nightclub bouncer has begun a legal appeal to overturn his assault conviction for grabbing a customer by the throat.

Bacchus doorman Dean Springer, 33, was convicted of attacking Adam Tang, 23, who had bodybuilding substance Creatine in his pocket in thequeue on July 24 last year.

He lost his job after being handed a conditional discharge at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on February 2.

During his trial, Springer said he thought Mr Tang had drugs and denied assaulting him.

But magistrates judged Springer was guilty of assault by beating after pushing Mr Tang to the floor, grabbing him by the throat and pinning him on the ground.

They gave him an “unusual” sentence of a conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £300 costs, after hearing about his “very good record” and previous professionalism.

A hearing with witnesses and showing CCTV of the incident will take place at Kingston Crown Court on April 27.
