An East Sheen chiropractor has been cleared of allegations relating to professional misconduct.
Camilla Ellis DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) appeared before the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) on Friday, February 3, charged with advertising information on the Sheen Road Chiropractic website that put pressure on parents to seek chiropractic care for babies and children.
The GCC stated said was not satisfied to the required standard that Miss Ellis had caused or permitted the alleged offending page to remain on the clinic’s website on September 29, 2010, as claimed.
The clinic, in Sheen Road, Richmond, allegedly put on its website that natural births could cause babies hidden damage by putting stress on their newly developing spines.
It said: “Studies show that many children who experience symptoms especially of colic, ear infections and asthma often have spinal subluxations impairing their nervous system function.
“Early detection and correction can prevent layers of damage from occurring in the child’s vital nervous system at this important developmental time.”
During the hearing, Miss Ellis said she had taken down the statement before the date it was claimed, according to a formal complaint, to have still been seen live on the website.
She said: “Our administration [of chiropractors] sent us out advice on what we should say and what we shouldn’t say, what we are allowed to say, etc about November 2009 and when they sent that out I made the changes on the website... so had already made some changes.”
Miss Ellis said, once informed there were still issues with her chiropractic children’s page in 2010, she made additional changes to ensure visitors to the website did not see misleading information.
She said: “I emailed I think, or even rang as well, my website guys [as soon as I was told to make changes] and asked them if they could just remove this page and how quickly they could do that and explained the emergency.”
A GCC committee ruled it “did not find the allegation to be well founded and no further action will be taken in respect of this matter.”
The GCC also highlighted the allegation did not relate in any way to the treatment of patients.
