More people get chance to grow their own in Elstree and Borehamwood

Budding vegetable growers will be given the chance to grow their own, after it was announced more allotment plots will be made available.

The Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council has announced it will be reclaiming 20 plots, all of which will be allocated to those on the waiting list.

The allotment sites at Allum Lane and in Melrose Avenue will both be cleared, enabling a number of overgrown plots to be used again.

Town councillor Farida Turner said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to sort out these plots and get them cleared so people will be able to get on with growing their own produce.

“We’re determined to continue making the allotment sites better so people can get the most from them.”

Due to the recent wintery weather conditions, clearance of the overgrown areas has been delayed and will take place next month.
