THE Prince of Wales visited the Cafe of Good Hope in Hither Green today ahead of a summit at Clarence House.

The cafe was set up in memory of 16-year-old Jimmy Mizen who was murdered in Lee in May 2008.

Prince Charles was there meeting youngsters who have had experience with the Prince’s Trust, have been to prison and turned their lives around, and those who work with youth voluntary organisations.

He asked those gathered if they felt young people would benefit from the existence of “positive” gangs in society.

Young scout leaders also attended the meeting and told the Prince about how the organisation helps them to do something positive and learn valuable life skills.

Jimmy's father, Barry, said it was important that Prince Charles met with teenagers to discuss their issues as it gave him credibility.

He added: “When we set up the foundation we never even thought we would be welcoming royalty to our cafe.

“It was great having Prince Charles here today. There was a lot of excitement and lots of people.

“He is a great person and has a genuine heart for the life of young people and he is in the position to be able to actually do something.

“We are very thankful and also positive that some great things will come from this.”

After the visit the Prince made his way back to Clarence House where he was due to meet politicians and youth leaders in a bid to tackle unemployment among young people and the causes of last year's riots.
