A WEST Wickham couple have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary, saying hard work has kept them together.

Tom, 90, and Barbara Gibbs, 88, were married at St Michaels Church in Ravenscroft Road, Beckenham in 1941.

The couple, who have nine children, 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, met while working at an aircraft factory in Thornton Heath.

Sharing the secret to their long marriage, Mrs Gibbs, of Chamberlain Crescent, said: “It’s just hard work. I looked after the kids and my husband went out to work and it kept us together.”

They were joined by their extended family and friends to celebrate the day.

Mrs Gibbs added: “It was an absolutely brilliant day with friends and neighbours and we both enjoyed the whole day.”
