A CABLE car across the Thames will be called the Emirates Airline in a £36m deal, it has been announced.

The system, the cost of which has risen from £25m to £60m since it was first announced, will take passengers between the Royal Docks and Greenwich peninsula.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson, who unveiled one of the project’s ‘gondolas’ today, said he was “thrilled” by the sponsorship deal.

It promises a journey time of five minutes, carrying up to 2,500 people each hour in both directions.
