A DREAM of being a dancer could come true for a girl who was barely able to walk when she was a toddler.

Libby Lee, aged 10, had been unable to walk alone since she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 11 months old.

But after a News Shopper campaign she had two life changing operations in the USA and has recently returned from her second bout of physiotherapy in St Louis.

Her doctor in the States, Dr T.S. Park, was really pleased with her progress, saying the spasticity in her legs has completely gone and will never return.

He also says she should be able to get rid of her walking frame in six months and should be able to cope by using crutches when she reaches secondary school.

And as well as being able to walk, the Green Street Green primary school pupil is even able to dance.

In an email she said: “My walking is getting a little bit better.

“I can now do dancing (yippee!).

“I have been taking street dance lessons every Monday morning. I am learning to jump, stand up from the floor and turn around while walking.”

Her mum Toni, aged 42, who runs The Greyhound pub in Commonside with her 47-year-old husband, said: “We’re delighted after coming back from America.

“It’s been a really difficult year and harder than we ever imagined but the difference in her now [is amazing].

“Libby seems to have moved on a level.

“We have a good year before we see the real benefits but she’s now walking round to the shop and she’s feeling better.

“It’s all about confidence.”
