THE MP who represents the area where a man was shot dead by police has called for the community to remain calm.

Tottenham MP David Lammy visited Ferry Lane on the Waltham Forest border with Tottenham, where 29-year-old Mark Duggan was killed after a shoot-out with police on Thursday (August 4).

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the incident, in which a police officer was also injured, and has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The IPCC said the incident occurred after police officers stopped a minicab to arrest Mr Duggan in a pre-planned operation.

Mr Lammy said: “There is now a mood of anxiety in the local community, but everyone must remain calm.

“It is encouraging that the Independent Police Complaints Commission has immediately taken over the investigation.

“There is a need to clarify the facts and to move quickly to allay fears.

“It is very important that our community remains calm and allows the investigation to take its course.”

Anyone with information should call the IPCC on 0800 096 9079 or email ferrylaneshooting@ipcc.gov.uk
