A TEACHER who threatened to staple a pupil’s ears to the wall has been banned from the profession.

Nicholas Mellor was an English teacher at Walthamstow Academy in Billet Road when he also called a female student ‘baby cheeks’ while touching her face, a General Teaching Council (GTC) hearing heard.

He also in 2008 shouted at pupils, some of whom were vulnerable, and called them names such as ‘lovely’, ‘baby’, ‘darling’ and ‘ugly face’.

The hearing last week heard evidence from students and the school’s vice principal, Rachael Ward.

It ruled the threat to staple a pupil’s ears to a wall was particularly humiliating.

Mr Mellor admitted touching the student's cheeks and that he had an inappropriate way of speaking to pupils, but suggested he had been joking when he made the threat.

The GTC said his conduct was “particularly serious and indicative of a deep seated attitudinal problem”.

A ruling on Friday (June 10) added: “He has failed throughout to make any expression of regret or remorse and has not provided us with any testimonials.

“In light of this we can but conclude that he has no insight into his behaviour and he should not be allowed to teach.”

Mellor was banned from teaching in a state school, but can still work at an independent school.

But he can also re-apply to register with the GTC in two years.

A spokeswoman for Walthamstow Academy said: "The allegations date from over four years ago. As soon as they were made, Mr Mellor was suspended and a full investigation was undertaken which culminated in Friday's hearing.

“At all times our first priority is for the welfare of our students."
