Rail users are being advised to find alternate trains home after cancellations and delays affecting the Waterloo to Woking line, including Walton, Surbiton, Weybridge, Hersham and Esher.
A signals problem means trains are being delayed by up to 60 minutes at Surbiton.
Trains from Waterloo to Basingstoke will additionally call at Esher, Hersham and Byfleet.
A loss of power to the signal happened at about 11.35 this morning, meaning it had to be replaced with a manual one.
Engineers are still working to regain the power and further delays and cancellations between Waterloo and Woking are expected.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "The trains are running with delays and some cancellations and are engineers are working as quickly as they can to resolve the issue."
