Four police officers accused of beating up Tooting terror suspect Babar Ahmad have all been found not guilty.
PCs Nigel Cowley, Roderick James-Bowen and Mark Jones, and Detective Constable John Donohue were all acquitted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm today at Southwark Crown Court.
The verdict comes after the Metropolitan Police (Met) paid Mr Ahmad £60,000 in damages in a civil case in 2009, conceding Ahmad had been the subject of a "a serious, gratuitous and prolonged" attack.
Mr Ahmad was arrested during a raid in December 2003 after it was alleged he was involved in terrorist websites. During the trial, which started last month, he told the court he was beaten so badly by arresting officers he thought he was going to die.
Mr Ahmad has never been charged in the UK but has been in prison without trial for more than six years.
His family are planning on holding a press conference this afternoon in response to the verdicts.
